The Aquinas Foundation

The Aquinas Foundation was set up to target Nottingham schools in the first instance, expanding with time. We aim to help lower truancy and raise attainment within schools and tackle the associated problems which stem from these issues such as crime and illiteracy. Nottingham has a notoriously bad reputation and the Aquinas Foundation are determined to have an active impact on changing this; targeting the root of the problem at an early age (primary schools), tackling the actual problem (secondary schools) and making these young people mini-ambassadors for us and finally helping those too far gone (Pupil referral units) – helping these young people re-integrate back into education and help with routes into employment.

We will be attacking these 3 areas providing projects and schemes to improve on the various issues mentioned. This can range from sporting initiatives, Michelin awarded chiefs providing cooking lessons, Award winning drama workshops and other areas of Arts and crafts all aimed at raising levels of aspirations within young people.

We are also very fortunate to have sporting and celebrity role models helping us with these programmes. Again these range from professional footballers for example Jermaine Jenas, Tottenham and England international to award winning Michelin chiefs and award winning actors/actresses. Our unique website also has the option for these numerous professionals to post videos wherever they might be in the world to us to post on it. This will see a massive amount of volume through people subscribing to the website and being notified upon a new video arrival, almost like a twitter/facebook notification mixed with youtube video style links. We expect a huge amount of traffic with regards to this unique idea and the caliber of people posting videos. We will make potential sponsors very visible throughout this website to show their support.

The launch for the Foundation will also see current England and Olympic manager Stuart Pearce as guest speaker, along side current and former professional footballers. This launch will be held at the East Midlands Conference Centre on the 20th April 2012 and will be open to sponsors and backers of the charity and the causes associated with our work. We will also be showcasing a few pilot schemes to show supporters of how our work is done.
